The two actors previously feuded before the 2016 election. They reignited their argument on 12 September this year when the Will & Grace star told Sarandon to “shut the f*** up” after watching her video interview about Trump.
“Trump is so bumbling, he’s like a character out of a cartoon, that you can’t not be aware of what’s going on,” Sarandon told Variety. “Bernie Sanders proved you can run for office without taking dark money… So many more women are now running for office.
“This is a revolution… Maybe things had to get so bad before real change actually could happen. We just have to stay awake.”
The publication headlined the piece: “Trump has, if anything, inspired more women and people of color to run for office, says actress Susan Sarandon.”
Messing responded vehemently on Twitter, writing: “STFU SUSAN. Oh yes, PLEASE let’s give Trump CREDIT. I mean how else are you able to walk out on the street.
“Convince yourself that that this CATASTROPHE of a President who you said was better that [Hillary Rotten Clinton] IS NOT ripping children away from parents seeking asylum.”
Sarandon was quick to respond, writing: “Debs, before you get yourself all self-righteous try clicking on the video and listening to what I actually say, not Variety’s clickbait headline, which by the way has no quotation marks. That’s a clue…”
She also wrote in a general message on Twitter: I understand why Variety’s clickbait headline would be upsetting, but after you actually watch the video, you’ll see that’s not what I said.”
Sarandon was an advocate for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primaries, while Messing was an avid Clinton supporter.
